Amalfi, one of the great wonders of the Neapolitan Riviera, sits nestled on the side of the mountain looking straight down into the sea. The Luna ConventoWhitewashed and pastel buildings with brilliant flowers flowers climbing the walls, green trees and gardens, boats in red and green, and the deep blue-green of the sea have enthralled visitors for centuries.

The Luna Convento was originally a convent built in the 9th century. In the 13th century, St. Francis of Assisi founded the graceful cloister, where he spent many hours meditating. PoolsideThe poetic atmosphere of the Luna provided inspiration for Henrick Ibsen to write A Doll's House and Richard Wagner to work on Parsifal. All rooms have balconies or views overlooking the sea where students can bask in the beauty. Classes are held in an ancient Saracen tower.

  • At 7:00 PM, we will all meet in the hotel bar for a welcome cocktail, an orientation of the week by Rosemary Anastasio, the school director.  Chef Giannino will prepare a special welcome meal in the dining room overlooking the beautiful bay and the town of Amalfi. This is a time to become acquainted with the "family" you will be spending a week with.
MONDAY
  • A buffet breakfast is served in the dining room each morning from 7:30 to 9:00.  There is nothing quite like sitting overlooking the bay each morning with the fishing boats coming in and the town coming to life while enjoying a bountiful breakfast buffet and the incredible Coronetti made fresh each morning by Pastry Chef Armando and sipping an Italian cappuccino, espresso or caffe latte.  The staff will even deliver breakfast each morning to the rooms if preferred so you can enjoy eating on your balcony.
  • At 9:30, across the street in the ancient Saracen tower, Giannino will be prepared to share his knowledge and expertise by demonstrating and encouraging students to participate in preparing all the special dishes he has chosen for the first cooking class.
  • Around 11:00, cappuccino will be served on the top floor of the tower, while students relax and enjoy the view of the beautiful blue water and town of Amalfi. Then Giannino will call students back to the kitchen to finish in the preparation of lunch.
  • After class, Rosemary will take you on a walking tour of the town of Amalfi which will include a tasting of the famous limoncello, made locally in this area, visits to food, leather and ceramic shops along with a tour of the beautiful Cathedral.. "Thank you so very much for such a great week. I had never dreamed that the school would be so much FUN! Everything was terrific. Thank you too for all going out of the way to accommodate my diet. It was so nice to know there would always be foods that I could eat, not having to worry about what it contained in the way of milk products. I know that this was a hassle for everybody involved, and I so appreciate your concern and care in this regard. Thanks so much! "
