Great Wall of China Cuisine International is once again privileged to be a booking agent for a spectacular culinary tour to China and Japan from May 26 through June 7, 2001 with the highly entertaining and vivacious host, Chef Martin Yan. Chef Yan will lead demonstration cooking classes in both China and Japan. The trip will include 3 nights in Kyoto, 4 nights in Beijing, and 4 nights in Xi'an with optional extensions to Hong Kong or on a Yangtze River Cruise. 

Chef Martin YanChef Martin Yan is the celebrated host of more than 1,500 cooking shows, a certified Master Chef and is a highly respected food and restaurant consultant. He enjoys distinction as both a teacher and an author. His many talents have found unique expression in 21 cookbooks, including his most recent, Martin Yan's Feast. Martin is a professional member of the American Institute of Wine and Food, American Culinary Federation, Chinese Cuisine research Institute of Food Technologists, International Association of Culinary Professionals and the American Authors' Guild. And you all probably know him as "Yan Can Cook" from his long running television series.

    OSAKA/KYOTO: Upon arrival, you are transferred to the Kyoto Rihga Royal Hotel. (D)

    KYOTO: Enjoy a morning tour and experience the gracious spirit of Old Japan in the Kinkakuji Temple's Golden Pavilion and Nijo Castle, the Kyoto Handicraft Center and Heian Shrine. Participate in a master chefs cooking class. (B/L/D) 
  • Tue. May 29
    KYOTO/NARA/OSAKA: Visit Nara Todaiji Temple, Kasuga Shrine, Gokouji Treasure House and Osaka Castle. If time permits, visit the underground shopping centers. Enjoy a Japanese styel BBQ dinner. (B/L/D)

    BEIJING/XI'AN: Morning flight to Xi'an. Check into hotel. Visit to the Cultural Street and Islamic food quarters. Enjoy a dumpling banquet with a master class. (AB/L/SD)

    XI'AN: Today's highlight is a visit to the Archaeological Museum and the Neolithic Village of Banpo. In the evening, attend a Fabulous Tang Dynasty dinner, with a dance and musical extravaganza. (AB/L/SD)
  • Tue. June 5
    XI'AN/SHANGHAI: VIsit the Bell Tower, City Wall, and Wild Goose Pagoda. After lunch, catch a flight to Shanghai. The rest of the day is free for more shopping. (AB/L)
  • Wed. June 6
    SHANGHAI/TOKYO: After breakfast, fly to Tokyo. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel. (AB)

  • $3750 per person, double occupancy from SFO/LAX
  • At your request, YCC (Orient Travel) will make your round-trip flight arrangements to SFO/LAX

  • A $300 deposit per person is required to reserve a space. Final payment is due 70 days prior to departure (March 15, 2001).

Other Info: 

  • Passport: Please double-check the expiration date of your passport. Allow a period of 6 months before expiration. Passport renewals usually take 4 to 6 weeks, so allow plenty of time for it. Immunization shots are not required. A visa is required to enter China. 
  • Cancellations: For cancellations received 30 days prior to departure of the trip, 50% of total fare will be forfeited. For cancellations received within 20 days prior to departure, 75% of tour fare will be forfeited. For cancellations within 10 days (from the date of departure) or on day of departure, 100% of total tour fare will be forfeited.
  • Late bookings, Change Fees: There will be a 10% surcharge. 
  • Accommodations: Based on two persons sharing a room with two twin beds. Hotels are subject to change. Substitutions, if necessary, are similar class to the hotel mentioned.
  • Liability: The organizer, Orient Travel, is acting only in the capacity of an agent for the hotels, coach companies, airlines owners (herein collectively called the principals) to provide accommodations, transportation, or any other devices related to the execution of the tour, whether or not the principals are disclosed or known to the clients, and injury irregularities which may be caused by the willful or negligent acts or omission on the part of any principals or by natural calamities, labor strikes, and other factors beyond our control.
  • Insurance: Cancellation penalties will be strictly enforced, so trip cancellation insurance is strongly recommended. Optional insurance coverage for baggage, accident and trip cancellation/interruptions are available at special, low cost group rates. Please contact us for more information.
